Who the @#!?% is Curtis Gene Jones?

Dee Bonner

Many readers were introduced to Curtis Gene Jones when they saw his name appear in a couple of news stories following the surprise resignation of Major Hospital's president and CEO, Tony Lennen on Monday, August 11.

Curtis Gene Jones was listed in those stories as the hospital's chairman of the board of directors. One story stated that Jones issued a single letter to accept Lennen's resignation and to advise hospital employees of the change in leadership. In another story, Jones e-mailed a "joint statement" to help explain Lennen's abrupt departure.

After that? Nada.

There's no additional news flowing from the hospital board. Nor from hospital staff members. Gee, it's almost like lips have been surgically stitched shut. All of this silence despite the fact that Lennen's resignation still leaves many unanswered questions about hospital operations and Intelliplex. And despite the fact that the hospital board will be the body responsible for hiring a new CEO. Apparently someone has decided that Shelby County citizens don't need to know anything else about their hospital.

No wonder the question I hear most often around Shelby County during the past three weeks is this one: "Who is Curtis Gene Jones?"

I don't know why people insist on asking me questions like that, perhaps they are merely hinting for me to do a cartoon. Whatever the reason, I'm flattered, so I felt compelled to share everything I have learned about Gene Jones.

Gene Jones was appointed to the hospital board in March, 1999.

In August 1999, Gene Jones won the "B" flight in the Blue River Golf Club Men's Championship.

In August 2000, Gene Jones lost the "A" flight championship when he missed a short par putt on the 37th hole at the Blue River Golf Club.

On April 4, 2001, Gene Jones recorded his first career hole-in-one at the Blue River Golf Club in Shelbyville.

Thats stupid. they dont represent us . No more!

Boy, there seems to be more newspaper work/journalistic work being done on this website than is being done in The Shelbyville News! It's hard to fathom that all of the stuff people write here that has been going on in our town is being pretty much ignored by "our" local newspaper. I cancelled my subscription to The Shelbyville News a long time ago. I know that they have lost a lot of subscribers, but if they lose more then maybe they might start thinking about doing the job a local newspaper SHOULD be doing. Call TSN, e-mail them, tell them to start representing the public interest in Shelby County instead of just catering to the demands of the Powerful Few we have here.

Yes, I heard about the Federal investigation and also that the Department of Justice looking into the Major Hospitalís affairs. From what I understand about the hush hush word on the street is that they are also looking into the Intelliplex business also. I was told that a large number of concerned citizens sent letters asking that something be done about clearing up how matters have been handled. Iím sure that if this is true that ďthe powers that beĒ are sweating just a little bit. I am personally over the fact that people in charge in this town have the motto of what we (the people Ė the tax payers) donít know wonít hurt us. On another interesting note, Tony Lennenís wife who worked at the hospital has been let go. She went in to pick up her check and received a letter stating her professional services were no longer needed. Where is the news coverage from the Shelbyville news on all of this? Shame on them. No wonder their subscription rates are so low. Does anyone wonder if the same attorney that represents the hospital also works for the paper? It seems that one particular group of attorneys has their hands in everything in this town? We, as taxpayers, need to demand accountability from everyone involved. I am still looking for facts and whatís really going on and why nobody knows the truth

So completely under the radar the CFO was canned a couple of months prior to Tony's 'resignation'. Interesting! Of course the hospital states she resigned but we all know it is the same song and dance they are giving us about Tony. They were both given the axe and gifted the disguise of resignation. My question is when does the attorney get the axe? I would love to see the hospital start fresh with a new CEO, a new CFO, a new attorney, and a renewed mission of transparency. If the rumor I heard is true then the federal government may just aid in the transition to transparency. Oh I hope this is fact and not just another rumor. Has anyone else heard the rumor of a federal investigation?

The hospital's financial officer was fired. The hospital's president was told to resign. Nobody knows who this board president guy is. What is really going on at our hospital?
