My Labor Day Rant
I believe in patriotism.

My type of patriotism not only allows me to support my country, but also gives me the freedom to criticize it. My patriotism is an ember, it smolders inside.

Other Americans favor a far more demonstrative type of patriotism. A few of our citizens prefer the fervent flag-waving, flaming patriotism being fanned by the right-wing puppet masters of the so-called tea party movement. Personally, I don't care for that type of bigoted, chauvinistic patriotism. I think it's bullshit.

But at least those individuals believe in some version of patriotism.

However, another group of individuals doesn't give a tinker's damn about patriotism. This country's multi-national corporations, global capitalists and private profiteers, along with their toady congressional lackeys, show no evidence of patriotism.

During the past decade, these individuals have been on a greedy rampage in their quest for personal profits. They have savaged government regulations, ravaged our workforce, manipulated markets, looted the U.S. Treasury and destroyed the middle class in the process. After raping the U.S. economy, they now sit atop billions of dollars and invest billions of dollars overseas instead of spending money at home to re-build our country.

They are not patriots.

Their selfish desire for wealth and power has damaged our country. They refuse to help repair the damage they caused. It's time for the government to step in. Big time.

In 1935, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed an executive order which created the largest public works program in history. The Works Projects Administration created 8.5 million jobs during the Great Depression and demonstrated that government exists to help the masses of people not just the wealthy. Despite contrary conservative revisionist history, FDR's program saved the United States of America from a national economic catastrophe. A similar program is needed now, it's time for a "new" New Deal in order to put this country back to work.

Otherwise, anarchy reigns.

Have a happy Labor Day.

I like You! I too think that type of patriotism is bullshit.

Please don't quit printing that ridiculous tea party bimbette’s letters. She is very entertaining and it makes me realize there are a few people who act more like sheep than intelligent humans. When I read her silly posts I try picturing her on all fours, eating out of a bowl, on the floor watching fox news. Thanks to her, I now greatly value people with whom I disagree with but still respect me and my opinions as I do theirs. I am not into name calling but it does appear that I have sunk to her level.

It’s funny that most uptight Republicans like to blame all the governments problems on the Democrats but let’s face it folks…..Ain’t no F***ing way that an elected Democrat ever hired that wacked out B**** to work in a paid government position. We tend to be liberal in thought & deed and feel sorry for those who are less fortunate but she takes the cake. I can’t imagine any democrat feeling sorry enough to hire & employ an idiot like her.

Thanks! Got that off my chest and now I can move on to “the being lazy, drinking beer, & being a person who still believes that our President is one hell of a Man and leader” part of my day. And listen Bim Babe, take the day off, you are already getting paid to be off on Monday, so wait and respond then so it will feel like normal when you post and get paid while doing it.

Well said Dee. If these rightwing zealots have their way all the programs of the New Deal will be done away with. Why they keep trying to kill Social Security is beyond me. Had it not been for Social Security my mother and dad would not have been able to live after their health became bad in their later years. My dad worked in funiture factories while raising ten children. My mother worked at the old garment factory when she wasn`t having babies. I didn`t mind a bit working and contributing to Social Security. I knew I was helping my mom and dad remain independent. These assholes(like the state employed dildo) who constantly complain about government run programs that help old folks and poor people make sick of my stomach. So keep ranting Dee.
