There's a good chance that during the past week, uninvited messages containing outrageous rants and outright lies about government health care reform have glutted your e-mail inbox.
There's also a good chance that somewhere in our country today, a raucous mob, ignited by overly exuberant, partisan TV personalities and inflamed by factions within extreme right-wing conservative groups, are disrupting a health care town hall meeting.
Lobbyists for health care providers and giant pharmaceutical companies are spending nearly $1.5 million dollars every single day(!) to buy members of Congress in order to kill meaningful health care reform. Millions of dollars more will be spent on advertising to convince us that health care reform is downright evil.
Meanwhile, if you're having difficulty separating fact from fiction in the so-called health care debate, don't expect any help from the press. The mainstream media has gone MIA. Either because corporate ownership prefers to stay "neutral" so as not to upset advertisers, or, because a decade of corporate greed and budget cuts have decimated hundreds of newsrooms that once were filled with dedicated, experienced journalists.
Opponents of President Obama falsely claim that government agents will force elderly people to discuss end-of-life wishes. Last week, Alaska's ex-governor Palin went totally Looney Tunes when she claimed President Obama's health care reforms would create "death panels" to decide who will live and who will die.
Unfortunately, 5th District Congressman Dan Burton and two of his Republican primary opponents, Luke Messer and Brose McVey, have joined the crazy talk chorus.
Enough already! Please, stop! Just stop it!
Honestly folks, a small dose of hoosier common sense should be more than enough to convince us that our country is in desperate need of comprehensive health care reform.
If you want to get a jump-start on common sense thinking, read Francis Robinson's latest blog article, titled You May Be Dumber Than a Box Of Rocks
Then if you need additional help to wade through the claims, misinformation, lies and political distortions that have muddied the national debate about health care, you'll find links to nonpartisan, nonprofit, consumer advocate Web sites in my "Favorite Links" Section. For starters, go to FactCheck.org, Media Matters for America , Center for Responsive Politics and Pew Research Center
Seek the truth, then decide. That's the only way to keep the Health Care Zombies from eating your brain.

You are absolutely right on target, Dee Bonner.
Just yesterday, an acquaintance of mine who is a pastor shared that his family is likely going to go bankrupt due to the treatment of his life-threatening cancer.
The big health insurance corporations are pulling out all the stops - lying and deceiving - all in the name of profit margins.
People are literally dying and being forced into poverty because of the health care mess we have in this country.
Wake up, America!
