Speaking of Governor Daniels, here's another short news article you might find interesting.
Daniels to offer CIB bailout plan
Gov. Mitch Daniels will offer his own solution to bail out the city's struggling sports board when he proposes a new budget to state lawmakers next month.
Daniels said Friday that he would offer a plan "of some kind" to help plug the Capital Improvement Board's anticipated $47 million deficit for next year.
The governor is expected to propose his own version of the budget as lawmakers work toward agreeing on a new state spending plan in a special legislative session scheduled to begin June 15.
"We'll be looking to the legislators, but first of all, to the city itself to see what sort of approach they'd most prefer," Daniels said. "But I think that is quite a natural and appropriate thing to do to incorporate something there and see if we can't button that up."
Mayor Greg Ballard has asked lawmakers to give the City-County Council the power to increase alcohol, auto rental, innkeepers and ticket taxes to help generate enough revenue to cover the CIB's anticipated shortfall. He's also asked for an expansion of a Downtown sports development district to collect more revenue for the CIB.
Ballard's proposals were included in legislation that died in the final hours of the legislative session last week, when lawmakers failed to reach a deal on a CIB plan.
