The new "5th District Funnies" Section is a gallery of periodic cartoon commentary with a laser beam like focus on Indiana's 5th Congressional District.
Because Indiana's 5th District is represented by Congressman Dan Burton.
And Dan Burton is, ummm... a "colorful" U.S. Representative.
Ordinarily that would be reason enough to devote an entire Web site section to his district. After all, the 14-term congressman has provided us with plenty of laughs during his long political career.
But there are other reasons.
Foremost among them is a sense that Dan Burton's reign in Indiana's 5th District may be on the wane. As a consequence, several Republican professionals are lusting after Burton's seat. Two have already announced their candidacies in next year's primary. One is a Shelbyville resident.
So... here's the setup: a local candidate, an Indiana race, and a national office.
I like it!
The first "Fifth District Funnies" cartoon will appear on Thursday, April 23, 2009.
After that, and continuing for approximately six weeks, the section will be updated with a new cartoon on Mondays and Thursdays.
That's two new cartoons a week for about six weeks in order to get the section launched. Be sure to check in regularly and don't forget to forward me some feedback.
However, please keep in mind that, occasionally, I draw cartoons simply to entertain myself, so I fully understand that you might not think they are funny. Also, some of the cartoons may contain running gags, so you might want to read them in numerical sequence.
By the way, regular cartoons, doodles and articles will continue during the section launch, so "5th District" is all additional content.
To help you prepare for the launch of this new section, I have posted some "helpful" information about Indiana's 5th Congressional District. You'll also see some articles that show how other media covered Luke Messer's recent campaign announcement.
So for maximum enjoyment of the new section, be sure to read your homework.
