Who the @#!?% is Curtis Gene Jones?

Dee Bonner

Many readers were introduced to Curtis Gene Jones when they saw his name appear in a couple of news stories following the surprise resignation of Major Hospital's president and CEO, Tony Lennen on Monday, August 11.

Curtis Gene Jones was listed in those stories as the hospital's chairman of the board of directors. One story stated that Jones issued a single letter to accept Lennen's resignation and to advise hospital employees of the change in leadership. In another story, Jones e-mailed a "joint statement" to help explain Lennen's abrupt departure.

After that? Nada.

There's no additional news flowing from the hospital board. Nor from hospital staff members. Gee, it's almost like lips have been surgically stitched shut. All of this silence despite the fact that Lennen's resignation still leaves many unanswered questions about hospital operations and Intelliplex. And despite the fact that the hospital board will be the body responsible for hiring a new CEO. Apparently someone has decided that Shelby County citizens don't need to know anything else about their hospital.

No wonder the question I hear most often around Shelby County during the past three weeks is this one: "Who is Curtis Gene Jones?"

I don't know why people insist on asking me questions like that, perhaps they are merely hinting for me to do a cartoon. Whatever the reason, I'm flattered, so I felt compelled to share everything I have learned about Gene Jones.

Gene Jones was appointed to the hospital board in March, 1999.

In August 1999, Gene Jones won the "B" flight in the Blue River Golf Club Men's Championship.

In August 2000, Gene Jones lost the "A" flight championship when he missed a short par putt on the 37th hole at the Blue River Golf Club.

On April 4, 2001, Gene Jones recorded his first career hole-in-one at the Blue River Golf Club in Shelbyville.

Mr Matlock is on to something with his "flowchart" idea. I've been thinking for a while that I'd like to see a diagram of local government and government-like bodies in Shelby County (Council, Commissioners, Drainage Board, Planning Commission, ...) I think it would be pretty interesting to see what positions are overlapped, which boards appoint members to which other boards, etc. I just haven't figured out how/where to depict the info. I think that ideally it would be a collaborative effort. It's a big job and might take one person a prohibitive amount of time and research to put together. So, if anyone has ideas about how/where to start...drop a hint here and maybe we can get something moving.

Hello Everybody! Iíve been busy working on another big case but have found out some other interesting information regarding the Curtis Gene Jones case. Even though I am working pro bono on this case, I just can not keep it off my mind. Nevertheless hereís the skinny on what I have obtained. Mr. Jones does indeed live in the Overlook and I do agree that it must be petty awkward being neighbors with the Lennenís. Double this now that the hospital has relieved Mrs. Lennen of her duties as a nurse. Information I have gathered is that even though she could be a bear to deal with, she was a hell of a good nurse. I was told that she actually found out at the Lucas Oil stadium during the Shelbyville football game. (Go Bears and Coach Parks Ė you guys give this town a one bright spot in light of all the bad that goes on.) What a way to lose spirit at a game. Imagine driving up to Indy with the price of gas at $4 a gallon, paying to park, paying your way in the door, spending at least $20 bucks for food , sit down in your seat that your county helped pay for and finding out you are no longer employed. What a bummer. I am told she ran into a co-worker and inquired why she was not on the schedule for the upcoming week. The co-worker had a miserable task of telling her that she no longer had a job. Now Iím sure that the Lennenís are not hurting for cash but still what a way to ruin an afternoon and how unprofessional of the hospital. Back to the Jones case. It appears that Mr. Jones worked for AshCraft Trucking. He was the CFO when they went out of business. I canít remember all the facts from way back then but do recall something about Knauf, lawsuits and over-expenditures. Anybody out there that can lend a hand -please jump on in Ė the more the merrier to help solve this case. Mr. Jones appears to have been flying under the radar for years. The powers that be like that because they donít want to have any extra press or draw attention so all us lowly taxpayers ask questions. On another note, can anyone help me put together the facts regarding Mr. Lennenís first ex? I believe she may be employed at a big law firm in town. You know, the one that controls 99.6 % of the business in town. Iím just wondering if she knew Tony and his wife were getting axed before they did. Things appear to be getting interesting Ė donít they? The clearer things get the cloudier they become. Hey folks jump on in and lend an old man some help here. We canít do all this on our own. Well, I gotta jump on a plane and head back to Atlanta to earn a living. I am going to grab a hot dog first and think over where to look next. This sure has put a cramp in my fishing trip. I was looking forward to catching some big three-eyed fish in your little Big Blue River. Somebody told me to watch out for this Pheddie the Phenol guy though. I still havenít figured that one out yet.

To "Don't Waste Your Time": Thank you for submitting your comment. Here is some additional information concerning your post. Yesterday morning (9/8/08), The Shelbyville News eliminated the newspaper's composing department in order to reduce operating expenses. The affected advertising graphic design and prepress functions will now be performed by compositors at a newspaper located in St. Joseph, Michigan that is also owned by Paxton Media Group. Four full-time, long-term employees lost their jobs at The Shelbyville News and an undetermined number of similar positions were lost at the Connersville News-Examiner, a sister publication. The newspaper is currently advertising for an additional press operator in order to facilitate the consolidation of printing functions of three daily newspapers in Shelbyville (The Shelbyville News, plus Connersville and New Castle). The Shelbyville News recently reduced the physical width of the newspaper in an ongoing effort to shave the cost of newsprint.

Mr. Bonner I was wondering if you could start some type of flow chart so we can try to keep track of whoís who and how they are connected to all of this. Everyone could submit information and we, your loyal readers and fans, can stay abreast on who the players are. I realize that you do not receive any monetary enrichment from all of your hard work on this site but thought maybe you wouldnít mind being the avenue in which keeps us better informed. I should note that if the Shelbyville News was doing its job to keep us informed we would not need your help. In my opinion it seems to be mostly ads and propaganda. For instance, how many times have any of us read in the paper that our Mayor is the son-in-law of J. Lee McNeely? I remember thinking how strange that it wasnít more publicized during the first election and during his first term. Then it dawned on me that maybe that was something that they really did not want us to know. Now in light of all the currents events happening in Shelbyville I am almost certain of it. I really do hate when I am right about things that are down right evil and shady. Anyway, I am sure your help would be much appreciated. Readers, what do your think? If you are in fear that someone will discover your identity if you comment Ė donít be. Mr. Bonner has this site set up as well as Ft. Knox and only he knows your true identity. If you are still in doubt, just send him an email with your thoughts. I know He has very high integrity and wouldnít want to jeopardize his fans by divulging our true identities. I truly wish he was our Mayor but realize thatís never going to happen. How could he enjoy his retirement if he no longer could make jest of our city officials. Thanks Dee for providing us a vehicle in which we can laugh and stay informed. By the way readers, make sure to keep telling people about this web site. It surprises me everyday when I find someone else who does not know that Bonnerís back. Mr. Bonner thanks for keeping it real.
