Thank you all for the excellent posts here regarding noise! One thing to add is animals that are so frightened of loud firecrackers and also no one seems to remember we very likely could have ex or current military with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - and loud noises/sudden noises/lights are very hard on these fine folks who have served our country.
It is a bit disconcerting to every ONCE in a while - be told by our non-emergency help that "well there’s nothing we can do". More times than not the wonderful law enforcement has come out to check on things I appreciate their commitment to their job and serving our town. Happy 4th!

Downtown Shelbyville Redevelopment Plan

As a former resident of West Washington Street and a former City Councilman, I feel this is not the best use of taxpayers dollars. That is my opinion.

That was also my opinion way back in the day (17 years ago) when this subject was raised over and over during my tenure as an advocate of residents and business owners in the second ward. No one wanted it then and it appears that is still the prevailing opinion.

When I served in office I kept in mind a few things: Listen to everyone regardless of political party. Regardless if they were a taxpayer. Regardless if they actually voted in the election or not. And I always kept in mind that once I was elected, I should always remain an elected official and to NEVER become a politician!

I challenge the citizens of Shelbyville to use their individual voice to speak their mind. Call your designated elected official and also the at-large members. If you cannot get hold of the person representing your ward, call a different one that will listen to you, or heck, call all of them! Once elected they serve all citizens of Shelbyville. Write letters to the editor. Talk to your neighbors. Get educated on the subject. GO TO THE MEETINGS and public forums. Your taxpayer dollars pay their salaries and fund the projects they vote for. Do not sit back and rest on your laurels. Get informed, speak out, and go vote. If all else fails get involved. Run to become the advocate of your Ward. I did once and only won by nine votes so if you think your vote will not make a difference, rethink that position.

I also challenge Jeff Brown editor of TSN to do an in-depth story and also go to all of the businesses affected by the planned decision. Maybe the people affected will not be worried about the repercussions of speaking out. This is everyone's city. These are our taxpayer dollars. Say something before the final decision is made or be prepared to keep your mouth quiet once said plan is executed and you don't like the results.

Jumping off my soapbox now. I put in my two cents.

Btw, If you do not agree with my opinion, everyone has the ability to learn to respectfully agree to disagree. We are all entitled to our opinion.

Everybody have a great day!

Dr Mr. Bonner,

I have really enjoyed your 3 part series on the Subject of Marketing the Pig. I Get it, HOWEVER I know I do not get it all.

For Years and Years, fearful to say how many due to the fact it might show my age, I have been enlighten, educated, amused, angered, and truly entertained by your work. Lately you are not as active as you were in the past and some of your fans are wondering why? There are several schools of thought floating around the 'Ville"
1. You have a girlfriend
2. You have a boyfriend
3. Once you helped get a "Democrat" elected mayor you have no need to keep your website current and informative.
4. You finally climbed in the CAVE, laid down & gave up.
5. You made a deal with the local Democrat party that you would leave Tom DeBaun alone while he served as mayor of Shelbyville.

If you are able, please respond and let your readers know where the hell you are and what you are doing, or remain quiet.

I think all this recent gun violence and deaths can be laid at the feet of the NRA. I know that I will get roasted for saying that. But it is my opinion. Remember "Guns don`t kill people, People kill people with guns."
